The author spent a week in The Gambia at the end of November / start of December in 2021. The trip was a chance to see the range of the native birds, monkeys, animals and butterflies that could be seen in the hotel grounds and also on trips to some of the nature reserves in Gambia. Using their base at Senegambia Beach Hotel, Michael and his wife Karen also visited Kotu Bridge, Kachikally Sacred Crocodile Pool and Brufut Woods. Birds seen during the weeks stay included Black and Yellow-Billed Kites, Rollers (Blue-bellied and Broad-billed), Western Red Billed Hornbill, Bearded Barbet, White-Crowned Robin Chat, Western Plantain-eater, Grey Kestrel, African Harrier Hawk, Yellow-crowned Gonolek and the Blue-breasted Kingfisher and Giant Kingfisher. Butterflies included the Elegant Acraea, Citrus Swallowtail, Little Commodore, African Tiger, Brown Playboy, Dark Blue Pansy and the Large Orange-Tip. Other wildlife included the Nile Crocodiles, Green Monkeys and Temminck’s Red Colobus Monkeys and also Nile Monitor Lizards. This book is a photographic diary of one week spent enjoying the nature of wildlife, fauna and landscape of Gambia.
