In November 2020 the Street Photography Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Battle Photographic Society (BPS) decided to create a book that illustrated a local view of life during the Covid-19 pandemic. The SIG leader arranged zoom meetings monthly to discuss the images taken and for the group to decide what further images were needed for the chapters that we wished to include. We ceased collecting images around the time that the first lockdown ended in June 2021.

Our objective was to illustrate life during this extraordinary, difficult and sometimes sad period when we started to live and behave in ways we have come to regard as normal for the time but which we would never have imagined before. However our main motivation stems from a belief that in the coming decades some of these photographs may perhaps be looked at with a certain amount of disbelief. The book may then be seen as a record that looks back on life in Battle and the local area where members reside, during such an exceptional period in local history which we had the foresight to go out and capture.
