When all the photographs fell out of my 'Alaska' album, the only sensible long-term option was to compile this book from all the extant available resources. It tells the story of how an expedition, 43 years ago, from the University of London's Chelsea College, successfully researched the bio-diversity of glacial streams in SE Alaska and of how the accompanying two-man film crew snatched victory out of the jaws of defeat and made a TV documentary on Glacier Bay's recolonisation after the retreat of the glaciers. The research is still on-going but the film has disappeared without trace (which is probably a good thing by comparison with the BBC's 'Planet Earth' series). Still, the book makes an attractive memoir for those who took part.
