September 25, l934, near Patriot, Ohio, I was born into a family of: father, Robert Saunders and mother, Goldie, two sisters and one brother. It was a lovely, happy childhood growing up on the farm in a big two story log house with a huge sandstone open fireplace, no electricity, no running water and no inside toilet. Education was in a two room school, housing eight grades. High school had basketball and I was cheerleader. My B.S. was from Rio Grande College and my masters degree from Marshal University. I started teaching in l953 and retired in 1999 with 45 years as an educator. I married and had three children: Keith, Robert, and Tammy Cook. I am Grandmother to five children and Great Grandmother to eight children. I remarried to George Smoot. I now live with my husband in Mason, WV. We were great campers and traveled to many places. But, now, age has caused us to be more at home.
