A photographic survey of daily life in Libya in the years before 2011's civil war and fall of the Gaddafi government. The country has a long history - prehistoric pictographs in the Jebel Acacus, important Roman ruins, and ancient oases - and its recent past is coloured by natural resource wealth and the long government of Muammar Gaddafi. This book portrays Libya in the period when the country was stable, safe and open to foreign travellers, shortly before the "Arab Springs" began.



One third of the financial proceeds received by the author will be donated to charities active in the country.



This book is the second in a series covering countries before an unprecedented change in their circumstances.

Carsten ten Brink
on the road

Carsten was born in Germany and has lived in Australia, Japan, Switzerland and England, where he is currently based. He studied photography, printmaking and painting in London. He has travelled extensively - to over 100 countries to date - and draws his inspiration from watching people live their daily lives. Substantial portions of both his photography and his painted works have an observational / street photography element. He has exhibited work in the UK, France and Germany and his photographs have appeared in publications in Europe, the Americas and Asia. He is also a writer. Short stories have appeared in the UK and the US. He is currently editing two completed novels and is working on a collection of short stories and a collection of travel writing.
