This book is the journey of my documentation of the surf culture in the 805, aka slo-cal, or the central coast. As someone who grew up visiting the central coast from a young age, I found sanctuary in its waters much like those who find themselves paddling out for a weekday sunset surf. After moving to the coast in 2022, I was able to reconnect with my inner child and find fascination in those who find beauty in riding the waves. From the oldest and most experienced to the youngest, bright-eyed surfers, they are all called in by the thrill and the beauty of the tides, much like my photography. I hope not only to share with you the natural beauty of this area but also the beauty of this special community.

Ainsley Alsbury is a Californian photographer who's greatly inspired by the natural beauty of her home state. Her black and white, and color photography capture small details that go unnoticed by most; the play of shadows and light, the graceful cradle of a dew in the folds of a leaf, the gorgeous twists and turns of tree branches shaped by years of wind. Due to Ainsley's fascination with the beauty of small things, she is pursuing a degree in cell biology at UC Davis. Ainsley has found photography not only to be a creative outlet but a way to destress during the bustle of daily life. Her photography is a tribute to the small details that make the world a beautiful place, encouraging viewers to notice the small things in life.
