Painting a Picture with Words
An ekphrastic poem is a vivid description of a scene or a work of art. Through the imaginative act of narrating and reflecting on the elements seen in a painting, sculpture or collage, the poet may amplify and expand its meaning.

The assignment:
1. View the collages in the exhibition.
2. Find a collage that suggests an environmental issue.
3. Write a poetic response as a memory frozen in time.
4. Make it personal. Describe the scene. Express an emotion. Play with the sound of the words. Try to discover instructions, encouragements, or cautions about caring for the earth.
