Acerca del libro
The Art of Gladys Barker Grauer is the work of an African American Woman whose individual style encompasses societal, ethnic and political commentary in an intimate manner while touching on larger, global concerns. Her artistic influence had its beginnings in Newark, New Jersey and continues to flourish there to this day. Founder of Black Woman in Visual Perspective and the Aard Studio Gallery, Gladys pioneered community accessibility to art and provided a supportive environment for Black artists.
The art of Gladys Grauer is a testament to the recurring fact that art has often been an instrument to promote one thing or another. Through her artful creations using the debris of inner-city life, her propensity to raise the ordinary to the realm of the extraordinary, her creation of murals in the communities, she continues to inspire the provocative by making a difference and reaching far beyond those who relate ethnically and/or culturally. Nette Forné Thomas
